It is not a call to opt out of the system. It is simply a call to take charge of your child's future. Here's a short story to illustrate my point. A short time ago I was in a department store and they were selling large plush animals. A little girl (approx. 3) ran up to her Mother and said she wanted the gorilla. Her Mother said that it was too big and it was a dog. The girl repeated emphatically she wanted the gorilla. What the Mother did not realize was the dog had a tag around it's neck with the brand name Gorilla. This child was not only ready for reading instruction but she was reading!
